5 great reasons to attend the August 11 game

5 great reasons to attend the August 11 game

We couldn’t ask for a better scenario coming off the bye-week: back-to-back games – – the first at home – – against our biggest rivals, the Toronto Argonauts, and a golden opportunity for our guys to claim first place in the division.

Friday night’s game at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium is unquestionably the most highly anticipated so far this season… for a variety of reasons.

➡️ Reason 1 : High Tension

If any other team in the league has had as many changes as we have had since last year, it would be the Argos. But for Montreal fans, the new-look Toronto squad that will hit McGill’s field on Friday night will have at least a few familiar faces.

The Trestman-Popp (who we know very well!) and Chapdelaine-Reed tandems will finally face each other for the first time in the regular season. What’s at stake? Nothing less than the number one spot in the East Division. We’ll also be happy to welcome back former Alouettes S. J. Green and Bear Woods… but we’ll be even happier if we can stop them in their tracks. Above all else, with both teams eyeing the same prize, the rivalry will surely reach new heights.

➡️ Reason 2 : Pride Game

The players say it repeatedly: It’s a wonderful experience playing in Montreal. Our city is alive, culturally diverse and open. We can be proud! And did you know that the city is hosting the very first edition of Canada Pride, a festival promoting the rights of Canada’s LGBTQ community? Friday’s game will be an opportunity to celebrate the values of diversity and respect which are dear to the Alouettes, as well as contribute to the progress being made by the professional sports community in much the same way as by our forward-thinking city.

➡️ Reason 3 : Veterans Go Head-to-Head

The Argos must have been concerned during their last game, against Calgary. Playing their third game in 11 days, they saw their star quarterback leave the field after he was rocked by Stampeders defensive lineman Michael Kashak. According to both Trestman and Ray himself, the veteran QB will likely be in the line-up on Friday. It will be interesting to compare the performances as well as the styles of play of two veterans: Ray, who along with Green, excels with the long ball, and Durant, who game after game is amassing more and more passing yards, and who can count on solid rushers. In fact, we were ecstatic to see Tyrell Sutton gradually picking up the rhythm again at the Big O this week… One thing’s for certain: What we saw at practice leads us to believe that the offensive line has rediscovered its intensity from the beginning of the season and it will be ready to protect Durant from potential sacks delivered by defensive end Victor Butler.

➡️ Reason 4 : Lighting Up the Scoreboard!

Speaking of the offence, Chapdelaine’s troops are definitely on the right track. There has been progress since the start of the season, whether in terms of time of possession, total yards or touchdowns. The best way to stymie the dynamic Argonauts offence is obviously to continue this trend and to find the end zone as often as possible. We loooove games with 40+ points! We’ll be focused on B. J. Cunningham who enjoyed an especially productive first third of the season. The good student seems to understand better than most his quarterback’s style and has quickly become one of our QB’s preferred targets. He has 475 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and, at only 28 years of age, he’s not ready to slow down.
