Alouettes to return to Trois-Rivières

Montreal, April, 25, 2023 – The quest for the Alouettes’ eighth Grey Cup will begin in Trois-Rivières, as the club will return to the Mauricie region to hold its 2023 training camp, presented by le Salon de jeux de Trois-Rivières.

On Sunday, May 14, at 2:30 pm, Jason Maas’ squad will step on the field at Stade Diablos.

Also, the Salon de jeux de Trois-Rivières becomes the official sponsor of the 2023 Montreal Alouettes training camp. The Salon de jeux de Trois-Rivières is proud to propel sports and entertainment in the Mauricie region, by supporting local teams and events. It was a natural fit for the establishment to associate itself with the Alouettes’ training camp.

On Saturday, May 20 starting at 4:30 PM, the team will hold its intra-squad game at Stade Diablos. The party will get started at 3:00 PM in the parking lot of the Pavillon des Humanités, as there will be inflatable games for kids and the team mascot Touché will be on site. A snack bar, a bar and Alouettes and Diablos pop up shops will be there to soothe all the fans’ needs. They are then invited to continue their evening at the Salon de jeux de Trois-Rivières where there will be a live band and entertainment.

Admission to this event, as well as for all practices during training camp are free. The public is invited to attend all of training camp activities.

“The return of the Alouettes training camp in Trois-Rivières is great news for our organization, as well as the local community, who can attend all of our practices and the May 20 intra-squad game for free. As a privileged witness, I can confirm that Trois-Rivières is a great sports town, and our presence for training camp is another proof of that,” said Alouettes President Mark Weightman.

“We are thrilled to return to Trois-Rivières. The hearty welcome we received last year was fabulous. We felt the efforts from the entire community to make us feel at home last year. The installations, along with the implicated employees made our training camp experience great. Especially those of the Diablos were really great,” added Alouettes General Manager Danny Maciocia.

“It is with great pride that the Cégep, and mostly the Diablos, are hosting the Alouettes again this year. Their return proves that our sports facilities are of professional caliber and of great quality. This collaboration is significative as it allows to consolidate the strong bond between our organization and the best football team in Québec, one that has started in 1969, the year our football program started. We invite all football fans, from here and away, to attend practices in one of the nicest stadiums in the province, the Stade Diablos!,” declared the General Manager of the Cégep de Trois-Rivières Louis Gendron.

Once again, teamwork is the main reason why the 2023 Montreal Alouettes Training Camp presented by the Salon de jeux de Trois-Rivières in the city of Laviolette. The team will benefit from the Cégep’s sports installations, while it will be housed at the UQTR residences and will eat its meals at those two institutions. Transportation between the two will be handled by the STTR. In case of rain, the team will have the possibility to move its practices indoors at the Complexe Sportif Alphonse-Desjardins. The work done by the team at Innovation et Développement économique Trois-Rivières once more facilitated the Alouettes’ presence in the Mauricie region.

“Sports tourism has taken its true lift off in Trois-Rivières during these past years, and hosting the Alouettes training camp for the second straight year proves it even more,” explained Daniel Rioux, tourism coordinator at IDE Trois-Rivières. “This is a prestigious organization, and we are extremely proud that they are putting their trust in us once more. We were able to witness that this is a true football city, as there was genuine enthusiasm from our community. Let’s all meet in May to support the Alouettes at Stade Diablos!”

During the team’s stay in Trois-Rivières, Alouettes’ players will be guests of honour of the Aigles de Trois-Rivières during their May 27 game, which has been deemed amateur football night. Some Alouettes players will be on the Quillorama Stadium terrace starting at 5:00 pm to sign autographs and meet fans. The rest of the team will then cheer on the Aigles when they face the Empire State greys at 6:00 PM.
