Toronto – If there is any better way to set up next week’s season finale at McGill, please let us know.

In an ending that could only happen in the CFL, kicker Damon Duval and receiver Mike Bradwell went head-to-head in a last second punting battle, with Duval and the Alouettes coming out on top after a mad scramble in the Toronto end zone.

Classify this one as just plain Canadian.

After letting a 14-0 lead slip away, the Als came back from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to beat Jim Barker and the Argonauts 37-30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Game scope
Following a disastrous loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week, the Als stormed out of the gates, scoring 14 points in the first quarter alone. A fumble by former Alouette Chad Owens on his own 15-yard line gave the Als excellent field position, allowing them to score on the ensuing drive.

The Anthony Calvillo-led Alouettes found the end zone for the first time in over a game as AC found his favourite and oldest target Ben Cahoon for a 15-yard score to give the Als a 7-0 lead.

Five minutes later, running back Avon Cobourne capped off a six-play 90-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown reception from Calvillo to extend Montreal’s lead to 14.

However, after three Prefontaine field goals cut the Als’ lead down to just five, quarterback Cleo Lemon put Toronto in front by two with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Bradwell.
After Duval nailed his second field goal of the night, the Argos exploded for two consecutive touchdowns, as Owens and running back Cory Boyd both found the end zone to send the Rogers Centre in a frenzy.

But after Duval nailed another field goal, the Als tied the game on a miraculous 54-yard touchdown catch by the healthy Kerry Watkins.

Two possessions later, the Als took advantage of their own mistake, recovering a Duval punt into the end zone to win the game.

The Alouettes will face the Toronto Argonauts at McGill on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m. (RDSHD, TSNHD, NRJ, CJAD 800).
