Montreal – The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday that coaches André Bolduc and Anwar Stewart will return to the team’s coaching staff in 2016 in the positions of Special Teams Assistant Coach and Defensive End Coach respectively. The club also announced that Montrealer Jason Hogan will join the staff as the team’s Offensive Quality Control Coach.
André Bolduc – Special Teams Assistant Coach (third season with the Alouettes)
The natural association between André Bolduc and the Alouettes will continue in 2016, as the Quebec-native coach will work closely with Kavis Reed as the team’s Special Teams Assistant Coach. Bolduc completed the last season as the team’s Receivers Coach, the position he played during his six-year CFL career from 1996 to 2001. Under his tutelage, S.J. Green had the fifth 1,000 plus receiving yard season of his career and was named a CFL East Division All-Star. His former protégé at Université de Sherbrooke Samuel Giguère had his most productive campaign in the CFL as he scored four touchdowns. The former Vert et Or head coach from 2007 to 2011 had returned to the Alouettes in 2014 as an offensive assistant coach. As a player, he was a receiver for the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Edmonton Eskimos, before completing his career in Montreal from 1998 to 2001, where he was named the special teams captain.
Anwar Stewart – Defensive End Coach and Defensive Quality Control (third season with the Alouettes)
Following a brilliant 13-year CFL career as a player, Anwar Stewart will coach the team’s defensive ends in 2016, i.e. the position at which he left his mark during his playing career, as well as continue to be the team’s Defensive Quality Control Coach. Stewart began his coaching career with the Alouettes in 2014 as the team’s Defensive Quality Control Coach. The numerous seasons he spent terrorizing opposing quarterbacks as a player and his knowledge of defensive strategies have contributed to make the team’s defence one of the most feared in the CFL. A Grey Cup champion in 2002, 2009 and 2010, Stewart played for the Alouettes for eleven seasons and ranks second on the team’s all-time sack list with 66, second only to his former teammate and protégé John Bowman (102). Elected the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive player in 2004, the 38-year-old coach was elected a CFL All-Star in 2004 and 2009.
Jason Hogan – Offensive Quality Control Coach (first season with the Alouettes)
The young Montrealer who was the sports coordinator of the Curé-Antoine-Labelle high school Loups in 2015 is very familiar with the Alouettes coaching staff as well as its offensive coordinator as he helped set up the Anthony Calvillo Leadership Academy for Quarterbacks last winter and also organized the Alouettes Old Dutch Coaching Clinic. He supported the team’s coaching staff during the 2015 training camp and for the first two months of the season. The 29-year-old was the Collège André-Grasset Phénix’s Offensive Coordinator from 2011 to 2014, following two seasons as the team’s Quarterback Coach. In his six seasons as a coach with the Montreal Cegep, he helped the team win three championships.
