Career

2017: Calgary Stampeders

Burnett played 11 games (six starts) and had 11 tackles including a tackle for loss, an interception, a knockdown and a QB pressure. He also returned four punts for 32 yards. He was placed on the six-game injury list prior to Game 12. Burnett played in the Western Final and had one tackle for loss.
2016: Calgary Stampeders

He started 17 games and had 40 tackles including three tackles for loss. He also had two sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, three knockdowns and an interception that he returned 34 yards for a touchdown. He was on the reserve list for Game 17. Burnett started the Western Final and registered two tackles including a tackle for loss. He also started in the Grey Cup and had three tackles including a tackle for a loss of eight yards and a fumble recovery.

2015: Calgary Stampeders
Burnett played 13 games (eight starts) and had 25 tackles, three tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, eight knockdowns and two interceptions. He also returned 12 punts for 139 yards (avg: 11.6, longest: 35). He was placed on the six-game injury list before Game 14 after suffering an ankle injury on Sept. 25 in Winnipeg and missed the remainder of the season.

2014: Edmonton Eskimos

He played and started the first five games of the season for the Eskimos and recorded 18 tackles, three pass knockdowns and one interception. He recorded a career-high seven tackles in the season-opener against the BC Lions. Burnett also returned one kickoff for 15 yards. He missed the final 13 games of the regular season and the playoffs with an injury.

2013: Edmonton Eskimos

In 16 games, all of of them starts, Burnett made a career-high 57 tackles, including three tackles for loss, and also had one interception, one forced fumble, one pass knockdown and one special-teams tackle. Burnett also returned 11 kickoffs for 216 yards and 33 punts for 291 yards. He earned the CFL’s special teams player of the week award in Week 10 after amassing 115 return yards, including a 78-yard punt return that set up a touchdown, in a game against Calgary. His interception, which he returned 56 yards, came on Oct. 5 against Montreal. He had three games with six defensive tackles — on Sept. 20 against Winnipeg, on Oct, 12 against Saskatchewan and on Nov. 2, also against Saskatchewan. In the latter game against the Roughriders, Burnett made his 100th career tackle.

2012: Edmonton Eskimos

Burnett played all 18 games in his first CFL season and earned West Division and league all-star honours. He scored three defensive touchdowns and led the league with six interceptions. Burnett also recorded 47 tackles, including two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and seven pass knockdowns. He also saw action on special teams and made three tackles while returning 28 kickoffs for 573 yards, 52 punts for 440 yards and three missed field goals for 74 yards. In his CFL debut on June 30 against Toronto, Burnett had two tackles and one special-teams tackle. His first career interception came in a Week 3 game against Winnipeg. The following week against BC, he had two interceptions including one that he returned 108 yards for a score and was named the CFL’s defensive player of the week. Burnett also had a 44-yard fumble-recovery touchdown on Aug. 10 against Saskatchewan and a pick-six in the Labour Day Classic against Calgary.

College: Burnett played four seasons at Central Florida (2005-08) and led the Knights to a pair of bowl appearances. As a senior, he was a first-team Conference USA all-star at three different positions — defensive back, kick returner and punt returner. Burnett earned eight conference all-star honours in four years including the punt returner berth every season. He was also the conference’s special teams player of the year. He graduated as Central Florida’s and Conference USA’s all-time leader with 1,304 career punt-return yards. Burnett also set a school record with 16 career interceptions. He played in 49 games with the Knights including 46 starts. He made 221 career tackles including 12 tackles for loss. Burnett returned 96 punts for 1,304 yards and three touchdowns and returned 26 kickoffs for 745 yards and two scores.

Personal

Burnett was a standout in football, basketball and track at Eustis High School in Florida. He earned four letters in football and was a first-team all-star selection. He has a degree in Criminal Justice.
