Defensive line coach


Bert Hill joined the Montreal Alouettes coaching staff in December 2017. He coached in the National Football League from 1990 until 2006, he last coached with the Miami Dolphins as their strength and conditioning coach.

More recently, he worked in the NCAA for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs as a defensive line coach for seven seasons. He helped his team play in four Bowl games, developing several players who broke into the NFL. He arrived at SMU after spending two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he was the Strength & Conditioning Coach. There, he developed speed, agility and strength and nutritional programs for individual players. He also coached the defensive line at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas.

Hill joined the Dolphins coaching staff in 2005 after spending four years as the Director of Endorsements for AdvoCare International, located in Carrollton, Texas. Prior to AdvoCare, Hill was the Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Detroit Lions for eleven seasons from 1990 until 2000.

During his time in Detroit, Hill served as Assistant Defensive Line Coach in 1990 to 1996 and as Assistant Offensive Line Coach in 1997-98, on top of his responsibility as Strength and Conditioning Coach. Hill boasts an extensive collegiate resume, having served as head strength & conditioning coach in 1989 and from 1984 to 87 at Texas A&M University and as head strength & conditioning coach in 1988 at The Ohio State University.

Prior to his time as a full time coach at Texas A&M, he was a graduate assistant strength coach at Nicholls State University, in 1981, and Auburn University, in 1982. Hill started his coaching career in 1979-1980 as defensive coordinator at Cloverdale Junior High in Montgomery, Alabama.

As a player, Hill began his career as a linebacker at Marion Military Institute before transferring to Wichita State University and finished out his playing career in 1978. Hill received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Auburn University at Montgomery and a Master’s of Science degree in exercise science
