Preview: Davis Alexander chasing CFL record vs. Stamps
The Montreal Alouettes will look to complete a home-and-home sweep against the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. ET at McMahon Stadium. The Als are coming off a 37-30 victory over the Stamps in Montreal last Saturday night.

Davis Alexander chasing CFL record:
Franchise quarterback Davis Alexander is closing in on another CFL record, as he has gone 304 consecutive passing attempts without throwing an interception. The record was set by former Als pivot Darian Durant (323).
Alexander continues to impress week-after-week. Whether or not he surpasses Durant’s mark or not remains to be seen, but what makes his run stand out is that he isn’t the type of passer that is conservative in his approach. He fits the ball into tight windows and tries to push it up the field often.
The 27-year-old is now 15-1-0 as a starting quarterback and he’s currently second in passing yards in 2026 behind Toronto’s Chad Kelly.
Tyson Philpot’s ridiculous pace:
It’s impossible to talk about this team without mentioning the historic run receiver Tyson Philpot is on right now.
The Als pass-catcher is the only receiver in the entire CFL to have surpassed the 700-yard mark (719). What makes his numbers pop even more is that no other receiver in the CFL has reached 500 yet.
The 25-year-old is coming off a 132-yard and one touchdown performance in last week’s win over Calgary. He also had 16 rushing yards.
Alexander and Philpot’s success goes hand-in-hand. They both bring out the best in each other. The chemistry is undeniable.
I don’t make this comparison lightly – and we still need to see them do it for a few more years, but this might be the best quarterback-receiver duo since Anthony Calvillo and Ben Cahoon.
Alex Gagne could set a new franchise record this week:
Linebacker Alex Gagne is one of the great special teams tacklers in the CFL. Last season, he tied a league record with seven special teams tackles in one game, and now he’s chasing a prestigious Alouettes record.
Gagne is tied with former Als defensive back Darryl Townsend for second in franchise history with 93 tackles. He needs one more to tie Chip Cox’s franchise mark.
Lineup changes:
The Alouettes will welcome back receiver Cole Spieker and defensive back Arthur Hamlin on Saturday afternoon.
Spieker suffered a lower-body injury in the regular-season opener in Hamilton and hasn’t played since.
Let’s not forget he was the team’s leading receiver back in 2024, and he plays a big role in the blocking game as well.
Hamlin missed one game due to injury. The Canadian defensive back offers plenty of versatility on defence, as he can play safety and strong-side linebacker if necessary. He’s also an important contributor on special teams. Earlier this year, he recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown at home against the Argos.
