‘It was just precautionary’: Davis Alexander avoids serious injury on Friday

The city of Montreal and the province of Quebec held their collective breaths when Alouettes starting quarterback Davis Alexander was forced to exit Friday’s preseason game against Ottawa because of a knee injury.

Alexander left Percival Molson Stadium briefly to get further imaging on his knee, but the results showed that he avoided a serious injury.

“I’m good,” Alexander said after the game. “I got x-rays that came back 100 percent clean. It was just precautionary. If it was a regular season game, I would’ve stayed in the game.

“I’ve never been landed on like that before. My leg was kind of straight and a big boy kind of fell on top. It was interesting, but it’s all good.”

Alexander missed 10 regular season games with a hamstring injury in 2025 but still managed to lead the Als to the Grey Cup game. The 27-year-old reaggravated the injury in the championship game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He came into this year’s training camp 100 percent healthy.

Injury aside, it would’ve been surprising to see Alexander or most other veterans play in next week’s exhibition finale in Ottawa.

He’s expected to next suit up in Hamilton in Week 1.
