Preview: Als finish regular season in Winnipeg
The Montreal Alouettes will wrap up the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. ET in Winnipeg against the Blue Bombers.
Whether or not the Als will have anything to play for on Saturday remains to be seen. That will depend on whether the Hamilton Tiger-Cats beat the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday night. If Hamilton wins, they will secure first in the East Division. If the Redblacks win, the Als could clinch first with a win or tie against the Bombers.
Here’s what you need to know about this matchup:
Snead is a GTD:
Receiver Tyler Snead, who has been limited in practice all week, will be a game-time decision. If Snead is unable to play, Alex Hollins will take his place in the lineup.
Whether he plays or not, Snead will likely finish as the leading receiver on the team. He’ll head into this game with a career-high 1,129 yards and 84 receptions.
As for Hollins, has 163 yards over four games with the Als this season. The 28-year-old hasn’t played since Aug. 21 against these same Blue Bombers, but he had a terrific night against their defence. He finished with five catches for 132 yards that night.
Des Holmes starts on the offensive line:
First-year Alouette Des Holmes will start at right guard for an injured Donny Ventrelli, who exited last week’s game with a lower-body injury.
Holmes suited up in four games earlier this year when Nick Callender suffered an injury in Week 1.
The 26-year-old had a terrific camp in 2025, as he was one of several American offensive linemen on the team in May. One of the things that allowed him to make the team was the fact that he could play multiple positions on the offensive line.
Holmes played both guard positions throughout his career at Penn State and Arizona State University, so the position isn’t foreign to him.
“I’d say I’m very comfortable playing right guard,” Holmes said after practice on Thursday. “It’s just about getting back to it. I played that position all of camp. I’ve been doing it for a lot of my life. I feel like with the length and strength that I have and the feet that I have, I’m comfortable playing in the box. It’s just about being comfortable and doing my thing on that field.”
Franchise record watch
Alouettes Global kicker Jose Maltos-Diaz is just one field goal away from setting the franchise record for most field goals in a season, with 56.
In last weekend’s game in Ottawa, the Mexican hit four field goals, which allowed him to tie Damon Duval’s mark of 55 which was set during the 2009 season.
“I don’t think about the record, to be honest with you,” Maltos-Diaz said last Saturday. “I just think about the next kick because that’s the most important one for me and the team. I want to help the team.”
Canadian linebacker Tyrell Richards, who currently leads the CFL in special teams tackles (28), is three away from matching Hency Charles’ Alouettes record of 31 which he set in 1998.
This isn’t a franchise record, but middle linebacker Darnell Sankey is four defensive tackles away from the 100-tackle mark.
