Alexander, Mack return to practice on Sunday

The Montreal Alouettes were back on the practice field on Sunday, and two key players rejoined the team for their on-field workout.

Quarterback Davis Alexander took first-team reps throughout the afternoon. The 26-year-old has been out of the lineup since suffering a hamstring injury in the third quarter of the June 19th game in Edmonton.

Head coach Jason Maas mentioned that he expects Alexander to start on Thursday night when the Alouettes host the Toronto Argonauts, unless he suffers a setback this week.

“It’s always a blessing to help lead this franchise and to play with these guys,” Alexander said on Sunday. “We have a special bond here. It kills me not to be on the field. The hamstring is feeling good. I’ll be ready to go on Thursday. I can’t wait to get back to it.

“I’m as close to 100 percent (healthy) as I can get without actually testing it in a real-life situation. I’ll be able to run and do what I want to do, but I’ll probably know a little bit more on Thursday.”

Alexander admitted that if last week’s game against B.C. was a playoff game, he would’ve suited up.

Despite missing a game-and-a-half of action, the Portland State product was still named the CFL’s offensive player of the month in June.

Receiver Austin Mack also returned to the field on Sunday. The 27-year-old also missed the last two contests due to injury.

Mack has 12 receptions for 185 yards in three contests this season. His best game came in the Alouettes’ Week 2 win over Ottawa, when he had five receptions for 103 yards.

Fellow receiver Tyson Philpot (knee) did not practice on Sunday.
