Trois-Rivières here we come !

Trois-Rivières March 31, 2022 – The Montreal Alouettes announced on Thursday that the team will hold its 2022 training camp in Trois-Rivières. The announcement was made in the afternoon at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières by team President Mario Cecchini, along with the Mayor of Trois-Rivières Jean Lamarche, the General Manager of Innovation et Développement économique Trois-Rivières Mario De Tilly, as well as the General Manager of the Cégep de Trois-Rivières Louis Gendron.

Starting Sunday May 15, Alouettes players and coaches will take the field of the Stade Diablos and begin their preparation to bring back the Grey Cup to La Belle Province in 2022.

“We are extremely happy to hold our training camp in Trois-Rivières,” declared Alouettes President Mario Cecchini. “The dynamic people we have met for this project to take place, matched with the region’s rich football history, convinced us that we are making the right decision to set up in the Mauricie region for one of the most important moments in our season.”

The Alouettes will make the Cité de Laviolette their home until June 3. The club will practice at the Stade Diablos and have its locker room at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières. The team will also set up shop at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), as the coaches, players and staff will stay at the different residences, while holding the team’s meetings and meals on campus. Transportation between these campuses will be made via the Service the Transport en Commun de Trois-Rivières (STTR). In the event of bad weather, the team will have the option to practice at the Complexe sportif Alphonse-Desjardins.

“Trois-Rivières is definitely recognized as a sports city, and today’s announcement confirms it once more! The deployment of our sports tourism strategy and our important investments in professional caliber infrastructure these past years have given us the means to think big. It is for us a nice opportunity,” said the Mayor of Trois-Rivières Jean Lamarche. “Hosting this prestigious team has been made possible by the implication of many actors who worked closely and from afar on this project, and I am very proud. In May, Trois-Rivières will vibrate to the rhythm of the Alouettes and football!”

Khari Jones’ protégés will be on the field almost daily until June 2. All practices will be open to the public and attendance is free. Alouettes and football fans are encouraged to attend in great numbers.

Louis Gendron, General Manager at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières is very enthusiastic. “We are proud to host the Montreal Alouettes in our sports installations of professional caliber. It’s not only a source of inspiration for our students and student athletes, but extremely significant for our Diablos, for whom football represents a love story and tradition. We invite all the population to come discover our Stade Diablos and to live the pro football experience. Welcome to our city!”

“The presence of professionals like the Montreal Alouettes on our campus remind us of the important role that the UQTR plays in the development of student-athletes, but also in sporting events. The UQTR is proud to collaborate with the Cégep and the City by offering its installations and expertise to realize this project that will make Trois-Rivières shine on all levels. It is for us an immense honour to support the Alouettes in their pursuit of their tradition of excellence,” said the Rector of l’UQTR Christian Blanchette.

Players, coaches and management are looking forward to being in a sports town of the caliber of Trois-Rivières and take advantage of first-class facilities.

“Training camp is the best time for fans to be close to a team. We are looking forward to arriving in Trois-Rivières and allow everyone to live this unique and special experience,” declared Alouettes General Manager Danny Maciocia, who wasn’t able to attend. “We are convinced that the installations and the people we will work with will allow us to have a great camp that will become the foundation of an even greater season.”

The full schedule of training camp will be released at an ulterior date.
