If you’re into thrilling, come-from-behind victories, then the Alouettes – Tiger-Cats rivalry is perfect for you.

The Cats walked into Percival Molson Stadium in Week 4 last season and took down the Als, 27-10. That loss stung, as it dropped Montreal’s record to 1-2 on the season. Give Hamilton credit, they walked into the stadium and made enough plays to win. They were the better team.

The game you’ll want to watch over and over and over again happened in Week 9 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton.

The Als simply couldn’t get going offensively through three quarters. Starting quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. suffered an ankle injury early on and backup quarterback Matt Shiltz, who signed with Hamilton this off-season, was forced into duty.

Even though he had been ruled out for the remainder of the game, Adams Jr. returned for the start of the second half. His grit and determination helped the Als claw back into this game.

The Als were down 17-3 heading into the fourth quarter, but they were able to chip away at the Tiger-Cats lead.

Check out our head-to-head with the Ottawa Redblacks.

Trailing 17-13 in the final minute of the fourth quarter, Adams Jr. led the team on a drive into Hamilton territory. He was able to complete a key third-down pass to Geno Lewis, which was obviously huge, before the two connected on this incredible play (see below).

In the end, the game wasn’t decided in regulation because the Tiger-Cats were able to kick a long field goal with no-time remaining, but the Als eventually won, 23-20, in overtime.

That was clearly one of the more memorable finishes in franchise history. To do that at home would’ve been difficult enough, but the fact that the group was able to mount a comeback of that fashion in enemy territory was even more impressive.

Unfortunately, the final meeting of 2021 between these two teams didn’t go the Als’ way, and it put an end to their campaign.

The Alouettes, who were led by Trevor Harris in this one, dropped the East Division Semi-Final on Nov. 28, 23-12, in Hamilton.

Montreal failed to build on their 3-0 lead in the first quarter before things fell apart in the second, as they allowed the Ticats to score 20 unanswered points before half-time. The interception and three fumbles certainly didn’t make matters easier on the either.

The Als have now lost three playoff games in a row to the Tiger-Cats dating back to 2013.

This is one of the sneaky-good rivalries in the CFL. It may not have the history that the Argos-Ticats rivalry has, but there’s been plenty of drama between these two sides. Expect that to continue in 2022!
