Ménard and Wieneke honoured

Montreal, October 19, 2021 – The Canadian Football League announced on Tuesday that defensive lineman David Ménard and receiver Jake Wieneke were named amongst the league’s players of the week.

Ménard was an important contributor to the defence’s collective effort, as he made two sacks while forcing a fumble at Ottawa’s 12-yard line, allowing Montreal to add three points to their lead a few moments later. The Chicoutimi native’s two sacks allowed the Alouettes to finish the game with ten sacks, tying a team record that dated all the way back to 1985.

Everything Wieneke touches continues to turn to gold. Into a touchdown in fact. Ok, almost everything. The 27-year old scored his league-leading eighth receiving touchdown of the season on Saturday. 18% of his receptions this season have allowed the Alouettes to add six points on the board. He completed the game with seven receptions for 114 yards. Three of his catches allowed the Alouettes convert second downs.

With first place in the East Division on the line, the Alouettes will host the Toronto Argonauts Friday night, at 7:30 pm, at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
