The best football movies To Watch During Lockdown

With the province on lockdown for the next few weeks, we’ll have a lot of time on our hands to binge-watch our favorite football movies.

But let’s be honest, picking just the right film for a given night isn’t always the chillaxing experience it could be. So we asked the Alouettes’ staff and coaches to share their top football flicks!

• Any Given Sunday (1999)
To film the movie, the producers followed the Oakland Raiders who’s offensive coordinator at the time was Marc Trestman!

Did you know? Alouettes Receivers coach Robert Gordon stars in the movie. Between football seasons, Robert worked as an actor and stuntman and appeared in 4 other major football movies; Invincible, Second String, We Are Marshall and The Game Plan.

• Invincible (2006)
The movie Invincible is based on the true story of Vincent Papale who played for the Philadelphia Eagles. His son Vinny Papale signed a two-year contract with the Alouettes on May 4, 2020!

• The Sum Of All Fears (2002)
A few scenes were was shot at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, and features former Alouettes star quarterback Anthony Calvillo, Alouettes cheerleader and our very own Annie Larouche, director of Community Relations and the Alouettes Foundation

• The Longest Yard (1974 and 2005)
We recommend the original version with Burth Reynolds, but if you’re a fan of Adam Sandler, the 2005 version isn’t bad either!)

• Friday Night Lights (2004)
A television series of the same name was also produced. We recommend it if you have more time on your hands!

• Rudy (1993)
• The Waterboy (1998)
• The Blind Side (2009)
• We Are Marshall (2006)
• Remember the Titans (2000)
• Brian’s Song (2001)
• Jerry Maguire (1996)
• Little Giants (1994)
• Safety (2020)
• Everybody’s All-American (1988)

Grab your popcorn and a cozy blanket, and enjoy!
