Training camp report – Day 4

There are plenty of new faces at the Montreal Alouettes 2019 training camp. Some had never set foot North of the border, as for others it’s somewhat of a homecoming. Offensive lineman Spencer Wilson‘s reality is somewhere in between the two.

For the eight-year CFL veteran who just hoisted the Grey Cup with the Calgary Stampeders, Montreal didn’t only represent a yearly business trip, as his wife and all of her family hail from La Belle Province. The 31-year-old has been sharing his life with his Maryse, who grew up in Saint-Sauveur in the Laurentians, for the last seven years. She most likely had some influence when Spencer decided to pursue his career in Montreal.

“I am thrilled to be able to play close to her family,” said Spencer, whose wife will give birth to their first child in July. “With our kid on the way, she is also happy to be closer to her family and it will be easier to raise our kid in both languages, which is important for us.”

His main reason for choosing Montreal remains football however, and Spencer firmly believes that he will be able to help the Alouettes find the road to success in 2019.

Rapid Fire

Receiver DeVier Posey continues to preach by example, as he puts in a lot of extra work following every practice… Sophomore running back Ryder Stone returned the field on Thursday, and he was clearly happy to be back with the boys… Alouettes defensive lineman and former Carabin Jean-Samuel Blanc is happy that Asnnel Robo, who is from his alma mater, is with him in camp. “There are a lot of former Rouge et Or players here so I get bugged quite often about the rivalry, so I’m happy Asnnel is here now,” said Blanc.

Transactions

The Alouettes added international defensive lineman Latarius Brady to the roster. The former Memphis University Tiger totalled 63 tackles, two sacks, two knockdowns and three fumble recoveries in 30 games with the Tigers. The club also added national receiver Andrew Bennett and international receiver Andrew Verboys to the roster. The team also released kickers Nick Dorca and Dominic Lévesque.

He said It

“It feels good to be back. I’m thankful for the opportunity to just go out and compete and try to make the ball club. It’s great to be back around the guys. I am looking forward to returning to the field and to contribute to the team’s success.”
John Bowman, who returned to the sidelines on Thursday
