Alouettes sign quarterback Jeff Mathews

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday that the club added international quarterback Jeff Mathews to the roster.

Mathews (6’4″, 225 lbs.) played three seasons in the CFL, including 2017 with the Toronto Argonauts. The 26-year-old quarterback started one game last year, against the Alouettes. He completed 8 of his 12 passes for 67 yards in that contest. In 39 career-games in the CFL, including six as a starter, the former Cornell University standout completed 136 of 206 passes for 1,659 yards and seven touchdowns. He also scored nine rushing touchdowns in the CFL on 50 carries good for 122 yards. He played his first two CFL seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Camarillo, CA native completes his collegiate career with 11,284 passing yards, which is not only a Cornell record, but also and Ivy League mark. In 38 games with the Big Red, he completed 901 of 1447 passes, including 72 for touchdowns. Following his stellar days at Cornell, he was a member of the Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals.
