2018 Mise-o-jeu Training Camp Report – Day 8

The Montreal Alouettes practiced as hard as the rain was falling on Sunday, day 8 of the 2018 Mise-o-jeu training camp. A little more than one week into camp, the team’s 2018 draft picks are starting to show why they were selected earlier this month.

On one play, running back and fifth round selection Ryder Stone pretended to accept a handoff from quarterback Antonio Pipkin, drawing a few defensive players his way. The play fake allowed Pipkin to have enough time to connect with seventh round pick Richmond Nketiah in the end zone. It marked the second time on Sunday that the two connected on a long play.

Some of these kids are playing to earn a spot our roster and they are doing a very good job at it. They are doing their best to make it hard for us,” said Alouettes Director of National Scouting Miles Gorrell.

First round draft pick Trey Rutherford is also getting better by the day.

Trey has really stepped up his game. He is clearly more comfortable after a week and keeps showing a nice progression,” declared Draft Coordinator and National Scout Éric Deslauriers.

Quick hits

Head Coach Mike Sherman is always exchanging with his players as he is constantly giving them advice between plays… Receivers Ernest Jackson and Eugene Lewis never take time off during practice as they spend a lot of time practicing their catches on the sideline in between drills… Running back Josh Robinson made a few impressive runs on Sunday. Many defensive players would have preferred not having to deal with him when he ran in their direction… Quarterback Antonio Pipkin received accolades from his teammates after completing a 30-yard pass to receiver Alton Howard… Quarterback Drew Willy practiced his footwork while holding on to the ball… Defensive back Branden Dozier had a solid outing. He made many tackles and always seemed to be the first player on the ball carrier.
