2018 Mise-o-jeu Training Camp Report – Day 4

The Montreal Alouettes continued to work hard on the fourth day of the 2018 Mise-o-jeu training camp. The players maintained a high level of intensity, which is always a challenge during training camp, especially on the third consecutive day with two practices.

I must admit, that I was very impressed by the intensity of the guys today,” said Alouettes fullback Patrick Lavoie. “Usually on day 4 at training camp, we see guys slow down and play more relaxed. I did not see any of that today. The guys gave everything on each play. I am impressed by our level of commitment.

Rich Stubler‘s defense had another solid outing on this cloudy day. As soon as a pass was launched or a running back went in enemy territory, there was someone on them. This could have discouraged the offence, but did no such thing as the unit never backed down.

We are going in the right direction, there is a chemistry developing between receivers, running backs and quarterbacks,” declared quarterback Drew Willy. “We are not yet at the level we would like to be. We saw today that some plays could have been done better, but we are working on it. Camp is long and we will review some things to look better in the field.”

True to Willy‘s word, the offence came back strong in the afternoon session, as the receivers and quarterbacks won a one-on-one session by a score of 12-9. A 40-yard bomb from Josh Freeman to Chris Williams sealed the deal.

Quick hits

Quarterback Antonio Pipkin showed that he was capable of launching some missiles … Defensive back C.J. Moore was all fired up on his first full day with the team. On two occasions, he registered good tackles that neutralized the opponents … Free safety Jermaine Robinson has also done well on defence with a few tackles … Running back Amir Carlisle showed what he could do with a ball with some sprints at the right time … Quarterback Drew Willy seems to easily spot speedy Chris Williams at camp. He threw another bomb to the receiver which riled up his teammates.

Only one practice tomorrow

The Alouettes will return to the field at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, but won’t have to return in the afternoon. And they can thank defensive tackle Alan-Michael Cash for that. At the conclusion of the second practice, Head Coach Mike Sherman told his players that if a lineman could catch one of four punts, they would skip the afternoon practice on Thursday. After three drops, Alan-Michael Cash dove and caught the fourth and final punt, after which he was swarmed by his screaming teammates.
