The Montreal Alouettes put on the shoulder pads for the first time this year on Tuesday morning.
More hits could be seen and heard and the intensity was clearly raised. The shoulder pads might also explain why certain receivers had a little more difficulty hanging on to the ball, but the players vowed to come back even stronger.
Some receivers still managed to distinguish themselves throughout the day. Matt Shiltz completed a nice pass to Eugene Lewis only a few moments before Jack Bramswig hauled in a Garrett Fugate pass. Josh Freeman and Seydou Junior Haidara were accomplices during a sequence. Shiltz also gained yards with his legs as he ran past defensive players when none of his receivers were able to break away from the coverage.
Quick hits
Running back Stefan Logan certainly did not lose any of his speed over the winter break and he proved it on many occasions on Tuesday during kick returns, running plays as well as on receptions… Some are starting to wonder if receiver Ernest Jackson did not put velcro in his gloves. He seems to catch every ball thrown in his direction … Fullback Patrick Lavoie did not take any breaks during practice. Between each repetition, he could be seen on the sidelines doing exercises in order to stay warm… Linebacker Kyle Knox stood out by jumping to intercept a pass as head coach Mike Sherman was looking over… BJ Cunningham is in great shape and for a third consecutive day, he continued to catch some balls that seemed headed for the ground.
Boulay working hard
Even if he was placed on the injured list linebacker Nicolas Boulay continues to smile and work hard. “It will be the first time in my career that I miss as many games in a season. It’s not easy, but I’m keeping my spirits up by working hard because I can’t wait to get back on the field. I know that many football players would like to be in my situation and play professionally.”
