5 great reasons to attend the September 17 game

On Sunday, September 17, our Alouettes will be back at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium to once again take on the Ottawa REDBLACKS. Can we expect an upturn? There’s only one way to find out! Come get your crazy on with 21,000 other fans and make as much noise as you can to help Kyries Angry Bird Hebert and his defensive colleagues stop Ottawa’s powerful offence.

Are you debating between a few activities? Here are five great reasons to pick the football game!

  1. The game is on a SUNDAY!

A lot of you have been anxiously waiting for this! After a long stretch of Thursday and Friday night games, our Alouettes will finally hit their home field on a weekend afternoon! We’ll be looking forward to seeing you on Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m., when what will likely be the busiest tailgate of the season begins! Check out BBQ Quebec’s mouthwatering menu or BYOBacon and enjoy the last rays of summer sunshine of the year. Seriously though, is September going to be the new July?

  1. $22 is the cost of a martini in the Old Port

It’s also the price of a ticket for this Sunday’s game, as well as for the games on October 9 and October 22. We know how much you enjoy coming to the stadium on weekends, so we’ve created the 3-Game Weekend Blitz pack: The final three regular-season home games for only $66 ($22 per game). Between paying that price to enjoy a superb open-air experience at the base of Mount Royal, or to have a cocktail made-up of 50% Tropicana, it seems to be a rather obvious choice, no?

You’d like to bring the youngsters along? No sweat! Check-out our Family 4-Pack that includes four tickets, four hotdogs and four soft drinks for only $33 per person.

  1. Airshow and #TackleHunger!

This weekend we’ll take a look back at the team’s history: It was named after the 425th Tactical Fighter Squadron, the first French Canadian squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force also renowned for its tenacity and dedication. To celebrate, two CF-18 planes will do not one but two stadium flyovers! It’s going to be one heckuva roar! Other events featuring members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be held during halftime. It’s not to be missed and it’s also a wonderful opportunity to honour those who fight to protect our rights and freedoms.

But perhaps this isn’t your preferred style of combat. No problem – you can help us in the fight against hunger! Bring your non-perishable food items to the stadium on Sunday or make a monetary or credit card donation towards Purolator’s Tackle Hunger program and you can have your photo taken with the Grey Cup!

  1. Once upon a time there was Chip Cox

Even those who only casually followed the Alouettes over the course of the past decade know Chip Cox. The all-around player – he regularly shifts from various linebacking positions to defensive back to… but let’s cut to the chase! – played his 200th game as a professional at the start of the season and he continues to be a rock in the Montreal defence. He’s won two Grey Cups wearing the red, white and blue and he’s not ready to slow down. In twelve seasons he has recorded 875 tackles and, if he keeps going at his current pace, he’ll finish the season with more than 70 tackles for a ninth consecutive year. Pretty impressive for someone who is 5 feet 9 inches tall, 185 pounds and 34 years of age… don’t miss this opportunity to watch him do his thing!

  1. The race is not over

One of the great things about a small league is that it is full of twists and turns. Last week, Hamilton surprised everyone by beating the REDBLACKS, and in Ottawa no less! The Tiger-Cats’ victory tightened-up the East Division, so much so that even though autumn has nearly arrived, it’s still impossible to determine which teams will make the playoffs. A victory on Sunday and our Alouettes would be back on the right track…
