5 great reasons to attend the August 24 game

It’s the halfway point of the season and, it’s also nearing the end of summer. Fortunately, even though most of the city’s summer festivals are now over, there’s still a lot of action at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. The next game for our Alouettes will be Thursday, August 24 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. And considering what went down the last time the Als played the Bombers, the atmosphere’s going to be intense… all for the better, that’s exactly what we want!

Here are five great reasons to join us at the base of the mountain on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.:

1 . It’s the White Out to Wipe Out cancer game…

Every year, the Alouettes devote one game to support the Quebec Cancer Foundation. The objective is to help the QCF with their research and to raise awareness among Alouettes fans to help find ways to defeat a disease that affects so many of us, either directly or indirectly. See what quarterbacks coach Anthony Calvillo, a cancer survivor himself, has to say on the matter… Wear your finest whites and help us in the battle against this dreaded disease! Or even better, get some fresh gear at the Red Zone! Until Sunday August 27, we’re giving you 25% to 35% off white items.

2 . This is one angry team

More than ever, the players want to prove to their detractors that they have what it takes to be considered among the best. The team’s mantra this week is unity. We have to stick together. And together, the coaching staff and each unit are working extra hard to finalize Thursday night’s gameplan for a Bombers team that defeated the Eskimos and are currently riding high. The team needs to be laser-focused, consistent and aggressive until the VERY FINAL MINUTE of play. The Als learned their lesson the hard way in Winnipeg… so if you want to see the team play like their lives depend on it? Here’s your chance.

3 . Sweet sweet revenge

Clearly, the theme for the month of August is revenge. And we have created the perfect package with this in mind. Back-to-back games to settle two scores… for just $39 – talk about getting your money’s worth! Get your hands on a Revenge Pack now and be in the stands to see your Alouettes retaliate against the Blue Bombers AND the REDBLACKS! Two super-important games that are sure to set the tone for the second half of the season. We’re counting on you to show our opponents how we do things here in Montreal!

4 . The Cajun Connection and Blanc getting back to his roots

If you still haven’t come to a game this season, now’s the time to do so. Watching the linebacking tandem of Kyries Hebert and Dominique Tovell is worth the price of admission alone. Hebert is a freak of nature! Second in the league in tackles, he’s having one of the best seasons of his career… at the age of 36! And Tovell is following in the footsteps of his role model: In his first season in the CFL, he has already recorded 43 defensive tackles (ranking sixth in the league), and has one interception and one touchdown. Both play with gusto on the gridiron, and both once wore the colours of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Geaux Ragin’ Cajuns!

Still with the defence, we’ll be keeping a close watch on Jean-Samuel Blanc. After a few years spent at fullback, the ex-Carabin will join the defensive line again on Thursday. Blanc, who finished last week’s game with one sack and one pass deflection, was clearly ready to return to his roots and we’re sure he’ll be looking to repeat his feats in front of his home town fans.

5 . First place remains the goal

We can’t emphasize this enough: The upcoming games are of crucial importance for Jacques Chapdelaine’s troops. Currently second in the East Division behind the Argonauts, the team is nowhere near ready to abandon its goal: To finish the season in first place. All that matters is to find the best way to claim that top spot. We’ll get back on our feet, we’ll get back to work, and we’ll come back full throttle… and we’ll leave the other East Division teams in the dust. Are you the kind of person who only enjoys watching playoff games? And enjoys watching when the tension is at its zenith? The August 24 game will not let you down. Everything’s possible, especially if you are with us.
