Steve Charbonneau becomes colour commentator for Alouettes’ games on 98,5 FM

Sherbrooke – Alouettes former defensive lineman Steve Charbonneau will become the colour commentator for Alouettes’ games on 98,5 fm and all of the Cogeco stations in 2017.

Charbonneau, who played for the Alouettes between 1997 and 2001, will replace former coach Jacques Dussault, who announced his retirement this spring. He will join play-by-play commentator Jean St-Onge in the radio booth. His CFL experience as well as his two Grey Cup wins with the Edmonton Eskimos will allow him to deliver on-point analysis to 98,5 fm listeners.

“We are very happy that Steve Charbonneau will find himself behind the microphone during our games,” said Alouettes Marketing, Communications and Events Vice-President Bernard Asselin. It is important for us to keep our former players close to the organization. This represents an excellent opportunity for Steve, who proudly wore an Alouettes uniform on the field and in the community, to stay in the team’s surroundings.”

Charbonneau and St-Onge will team up as of June 8, when the Alouettes play their first pre-season game in Toronto at 7:30 p.m. They will follow the team throughout the season, as all games will be broadcast on Canada’s most listened to station.

“We are extremely satisfied to have found a colour commentator of Steve’s caliber. His experience, as well as his football and Alouettes knowledge are all things that our listeners will greatly appreciate,” declared 98,5 fm Sports Director Michel Tremblay. “We would also like to sincerely thank Jacques Dussault for his dedication and good work throughout the last seasons. We wish him a great retirement.”

On top of Alouettes games, 98,5fm will continue to offer extensive coverage of the team in all of its different sports shows, including Les amateurs de sports and Bonsoir les sportifs. Charbonneau will become a regular fix on those shows. The deal that makes 98,5 fm the official francophone radio broadcaster of the Alouettes goes through the 2018 season.
