Rookie camp report – Day 3

Sherbrooke – Unpleasant weather conditions awaited the Montreal Alouettes for a second straight day at Bishop’s University’s Coulter Field, as the team’s promising talents took part in the third and final practice of this 2017 rookie camp.

In the recruiters’ eye
Character seemed to be the word on everyone’s lips during the Alouettes’ off-season. General Manager Kavis Reed and his scouts are looking to find the hidden gems with the best talent at each position, but hard work and dedication also appear to be key elements on the top Alouettes’ management priority list.

On defence, linebacker Anthony Sarao went all in again today, disputing every single repetition at full throttle and even adding an eye-catching interception in simulated game situations. The international defensive end and former Atlanta Falcon was everywhere on the field, standing out from the herd during this third practice. His physicality and aggressiveness pursuing the ball coupled with the poise he has showed since day 1 certainly pleased the recruiters on Friday.

“The energy and the tone that players set, combined with their character on and off the field is something we really thought of carefully when drafting our guys and it is something we took into consideration this off-season, especially during free agency and with the players we brought in,” declared Draft Coordinator and National Scout Eric Deslauriers.

Rapid fire
From the 2017 Alouettes’ draft class, it was receivers Alex Morrison and Malcolm Carter’s turn to shine on Friday. Morrison caught everyone’s attention when he impressed the gallery with a beautiful one-handed catch. He managed to make another spectacular reception a few repetitions later. As for his new teammate Makcoln Carter, he seemed too fast for the defensive backs covering him in one on one clashes… Quebec-native Maïko Zepeda intercepted his first pass of rookie camp, as he took advantage of his numerous reps Friday with his best performance so far… Teammates Anthony Sarao and Ronald Tyler immediately imitated Zepeda a few moments later…CJ Moore, who is in his second camp with the team, knocked down several passes, demonstrating his great pass covering qualities.

Transactions
At the conclusion of rookie camp, the Alouettes released the following players:
Philip Enchill (N), WR, Montréal
Hunter Turnbull (N), DB, Calgary
