“We want to continue to build upon the positives.” – Marc-Olivier Brouillette

The Alouettes will be taking on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday at McGill’s stadium. Several players will be given the opportunity to shine, as the Als will have to dig deep into their roster. Veteran safety Marc-Olivier Brouillette got together with montrealalouettes.com to share what the pulse of the defence is in advance of the third game of the regular season.

“We want to continue to build upon the positives.”

In the last game against the Ottawa REDBLACKS, the Alouettes’ defense had a strong showing with three quarterback sacks and 45 tackles. We played well in general, but we also gave up a few big plays. We saw a lot of positives in the game and we want to continue to build upon those positives.

Marc-Olivier explains that in football, injuries and incidents are commonplace. He believes it is essential that the next man up is ready for the challenge. “It’s a golden opportunity for a young player who wants a place on the roster. It’s a break that the majority of young players hope for. Obviously, the circumstances aren’t always perfect, but we’re anxious to see what these young players can do to help us win football games,” said the Quebec-based player.

“It doesn’t change anything for us.”

The safety is adamant that the current situation does not put extra pressure on the defence’s shoulders. “Regardless who plays, our goal remains the same: ensure that the opposition does not score a touchdown and that their possessions end with a kick – either a field goal attempt or a punt. So, whoever is injured or on the sidelines, our mindset does not change,” Brouillette said.

“Regardless who plays, our goal remains the same: ensure that the opposition does not score a touchdown.”

Even though Hamilton lost their starting quarterback last September, the safety does not take the Tiger-Cats lightly. He is anticipating a real battle: “Historically, we have always had very good games against Hamilton. It’s certain that the loss of Collaros at the start of last season affected them somewhat, but Masoli is an experienced player and an extremely dangerous athlete. We’ll have to give a really strong effort if we want to win this game!” concluded the six-year CFL veteran.
