Six Alouettes named East Division All-Stars

Montreal – The Canadian Football League announced on Tuesday its 2015 Division All-Stars and the Montreal Alouettes are pleased to announce that six Alouettes players have been named East Division All-Stars for their outstanding 2015 season. Divisional All-Stars were chosen by 70 voters comprised of Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) members and CFL head coaches.

 

Receiver: S.J Green (5th selection)

East Division All-Star: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015

S.J Green earns this recognition for the fifth straight season. Once again, Green was a major contributor to the Alouettes’ offence, amassing 1,036  receiving yards as well as three touchdowns on 71 catches. The veteran receiver took part in seventeen contests in 2015 and has shown no signs of slowing down as he continues to be a leader and a playmaker on the offensive side of the ball. He racked up his fifth 1000-plus receiving-yard season in the CFL.

 

Defensive end: John Bowman (6th selection)

East Division All-Star: 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015

The 10-year veteran had a 2015 season to remember as his brilliance was once again recognized throughout the league with his sixth career East Division All-Star selection. He had the most successful season of his remarkable career, giving headaches to opposing quarterbacks with a total of 19 sacks, good for first overall in the CFL. He added another career-high 46 defensive tackles. He was a key factor on a defensive line that recorded 55 sacks in 2015. The 33-year-old earned a place among the CFL’s Top Performers for week 20, when had his best outings of the season with three sacks and two defensive tackles. His first sack of the game allowed him to hit the 100-career mark, a select club which is comprised of only ten players.

 

Running back: Tyrell Sutton (1st selection)

East Division All-Star: 2015

Tyrell Sutton was dominant throughout the entire 2015 season, finishing atop the CFL with an impressive total of 1,059 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 180 carries. In his third season with the Alouettes, Sutton’s speed and poise allowed him to become a dual threat for the Alouettes’ offensive squad. The 28-year-old running back added 334 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 43 receptions.

 

Linebacker: Winston Venable (1st selection)

East Division All-Star: 2015

Venable earned the honour following a strong first complete season as a starter. He neutralized offensive units across the CFL, as he amassed an impressive total of 104 defensive tackles, which puts him first on the Alouettes and third in the CFL. The 28-year-old also collected five quarterback sacks while forcing a fumble and knocking down three passes. His input helped the Alouettes defence surrender only 22.3 points per game all while sacking opposing quarterbacks 55 times during the course of the season, good for second place in the CFL.

 

Tackle: Jeff Perrett (2nd selection)

East Division All-Star : 2014, 2015

A true pillar on the Alouettes offensive line, Perrett helped his fellow linemen to successfully protect no less than seven quarterbacks over the course of the season, as they only surrendered 33 quarterbacks sacks throughout the season, tied for first place in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders. The nine-season veteran also made blocks, which allowed the team to gain 2,076 rushing yards, good for second place in the CFL and an average of 115,3 rushing yards per game. Perrett proved once again that he’s among the best tackles in the league creating openings that allowed running back Tyrell Sutton to climb into first place in the CFL with 1,059 rushing yards in 2015.

 

Punter : Boris Bede (1st selection)

East Division All-Star : 2015

The former Laval University standout demonstrated all his power and precision throughout his first professional season, as he made all of the team’s kicks. The 25-year-old rookie maintained an average of 44.3 yards on punts, helping the team obtain good field position throughout the season. He pinned down opposing teams inside their 20 yard line 27 times last season and nine times inside their ten yard line.
