MONTREAL – The Alouettes announced on Friday that non-import offensive lineman Luc Brodeur-Jourdain has agreed to a new three year-deal with the club. He was scheduled to become a free agent this winter.
Brodeur-Jourdain (6’3”, 326 lbs.), a sixth-round (48th overall) pick in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft, became the team’s starting centre in 2010. In five CFL seasons, all with Montreal, the Saint-Hyacinthe, QC native has been part of an Alouettes team that has never missed the post-season, winning back to back Grey Cups in 2009 and 2010.
“Luc is a very important signing for us. He is the quarterback of the offenisve line,” explained Alouettes General Manager and Head Coach Jim Popp. “What the public doesn’t see is the amount of hours he logs on a weekly basis to not only prepare himself but the other offensive linemen. He is a great leader and always leads by example.”
The 30-year-old is coming off a season during which he was voted the Alouettes’ top offensive lineman. With four different quarterbacks under centre, the Alouettes offensive line allowed just 41 sacks in 2013, the second fewest in the CFL, despite attempting the third-most passes, with 609. The Alouettes also combined for the fewest number of holding penalties and sacks allowed with just 47.
In 2012, the three-time Vanier Cup Champion with the Université Laval Rouge et Or was named to the CFL’s All-Star team after helping the Alouettes finish second in the CFL in both passing yards and passing touchdown thrown.
Heavily involved in the community with the Together at School with CN and the Alouettes Program, Brodeur-Jourdain visits hundreds of students across Quebec every winter, helping them make the right choices and to stay in school, in addition to participating in the team’s annual hospital visits and amateur football initiatives.
