MONTREAL – The Alouettes would like to congratulate team alumni Miles Gorrell for his induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. The offensive lineman has been selected as part of the class of 2013 and will be joined by Dan Ferrone, Brian Fryer, Earl Winfield John (Jake) Ireland and Don Loney.

Miles Gorrell.

Gorrell’s 19-year career as an offensive lineman in the Canadian Football League spanned from 1978 to 1996 and landed him with the Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa Rough Riders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Winnipeg Blue Bombers as well as the Montreal Concordes (The Alouettes’ franchise name from 1982-1985).

The Edmonton, AB native first arrived in Montreal in 1982 and played for the Concordes for the next four seasons, picking up East Division All-Star honours in 1983 and 1984. He was the anchor of an offensive line which allowed Dwaine Wilson to lead the CFL with 1,083 rushing yards in 1984.

The 57-year-old is best remembered as an excellent offensive lineman with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, where he won his only Grey Cup in 1986, although he appeared in two more Grey Cups with Winnipeg. He remained with Hamilton until 1991 and was a five-time East Division All-Star, earning the title thrice with the Tiger-Cats in 1986, 1988 and 1989.

Gorrell played his collegiate football for the University of Ottawa, helping the Gee-Gees win the Vanier Cup in 1975.

The five new inductees will be enshrined at a ceremony to be held in Edmonton later this year.
