MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes, together with Football Québec, proudly presented a $15,000 cheque today destined to various football teams across the province in support of minor football in Quebec.

In the weeks leading up to this year’s Eastern Final at Olympic Stadium in November, Quebec’s minor football organisations were invited to sell tickets to the Alouettes’ 2012 home playoff game as a fundraising initiative. In addition to those proceeds earned, teams were also offered the chance to win prizes including an autographed Anthony Calvillo jersey and a football signed by Jamel Richardson.

Alouettes Chief Operating Officer Mark Weightman presented the cheque to the director of Football Québec, Jean-Charles Meffe, whose organisation now boasts over 36,000 active members.

Since launching this program in 2009, the Montreal Alouettes have awarded over $45,000 to Quebec minor football teams across the province. The Alouettes have also donated over $280,000 in bursaries to local football student-athletes through the Alouettes Bursary Program in partnership with Football Quebec, the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence and the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.
