The Alouettes Classic XXVII: Spring football is here!

Montreal, April 13, 2011 – Over 100 high school football players will take part in the 27th edition of the Alouettes Classic at Percival Molson Stadium, home of your Montreal Alouettes, on Friday, Apr. 29 at 7 p.m. Come see tomorrow’s stars!

The 27th Alouettes Classic

A Quebec tradition since 1985, the Ligue scolaire de football de l’Île-de-Montréal, a Montreal-area high school football league, gathers its best players each spring for the annual Alouettes Classic. This year, former Alouette assistant coach and current University of Montreal Carabins head coach Danny Maciocia and former Alouette kicker and current Concordia University Stingers head coach Gerry McGrath will lead both teams. Sonny Wolfe, head coach of the McGill Redmen, will also be on board to get the players ready for what should be a great football game.

The players from each team were selected by coaches and league directors based on their performances this season both on the field and in the classroom. In preparation for the game, the players will practice Monday through Thursday, from Apr. 25 to Apr. 28 at Percival Molson Stadium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

High school cheerleaders from the RSEQ-Montréal will step on the field during halftime to demonstrate jumps and acrobatic stunts.

One of the largest high school football leagues in Quebec, the Ligue scolaire de football de l’Île-de-Montréal is made up of 35 teams, 100 coaches and more than 1,500 players. Students playing in the Alouettes Classic originate from 19 public and private high schools from the Montreal Metropolitan Region.

The Alouettes are proud to continue their mission in the local community and are behind all the student athletes who will represent their schools at the 27th annual Alouettes Classic.
