Vercheval Enters Hall Of Fame

Montreal, MontrealAlouettes.com – Former Montreal Alouette guard Pierre Vercheval will become the first francophone Quebecer to be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame on the weekend of Sept. 12, 2007 in Hamilton.

Vercheval played the last four years of his career with the Alouettes (1998-2001), following five years and two Grey Cups with the Toronto Argonauts from 1993 to 1997. He also played for the Edmonton Eskimos from 1988 through 1992. Vercheval will enter the Hall of Fame with Greg Battle, Darren Flutie, Dave Knight and Rocco Romano.

Vercheval was a seven-time division All-Star and six-time league All-Star in 14 years in the CFL. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian Player in 1999 and the league’s top lineman in 2000. He played in 212 regular season games, 13 playoff games and four Grey Cups. In 2001, he became the first Quebecer to play over 200 CFL games.

Vercheval is the 15th player in Alouettes’ history to be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. The selection committee is comprised of 12 Hall of Famers, a group of former players and a committee of Canadian football reporters. Among the Hall of Famers on the panel are former Alouette Peter Dalla Riva legendary Canadian quarterback Russ Jackson.
