2009 - Squires begins his second season with the Alouettes following one year with the Edmonton Eskimos in the same position. He spent the previous 11 years as the head coach at California Lutheran University, having joined the Kingsmen in 1989 and coaching the defensive line and long snappers.

He spent the 1990 season at the UNLV, in charge of running backs. He then returned to CLU in 1991 and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 1993. He was named head coach in 1996 and, in just his second season, he guided the Kingsmen to the program’s first true conference championship as they won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title. He was named 1997 Coach of the Year.

In 1988, Squires began his coaching career as a player-coach for the American Football Ambassador in Australia and New Zealand. He coached the inside linebackers and special teams.

Squires attended Pacific Lutheran University in Washington where he played four years as a linebacker and on special teams. He won the NAIA Division II title with Pacifica Lutheran in 1987 (NAIA).

He graduated from PLU with a degree in communications and later earned a master’s degree in education from Cal Lutheran. Born Mar. 3, 1965, in Bellevue, WA., Squires and his wife Sherith have two sons, Brock and Gunnar, and daughter Silje.
