Montreal – Trevon Wilson has seen it all before. The music rises and the roar of over 20,000 screaming fans at Percival Molson Stadium erupts while his hometown heroes charge through the tunnel and onto the field.
Though it may be a while before Wilson has a shot at living the life of an Alouette, during Thursday night’s half-time show during the game between the Als and the Stampeders, he got a little taste of what life may be like.
As the 12th edition of the annual Wilson Challenge, pitting the province’s best minor football players against each other approaches, fans in attendance of the game got a little preview of how intense the summer football tournament can be.
“It’s a really good experience, and fun at the same time,” said Wilson before he and his Montreal Metro squad took on Beauce-Appalaches at the half.
For the fifth consecutive year, several Alouette players will be involved in the tournament, serving as team captains.
Pascal Masson and former Alouette Sylvain Girard will represent Beauce, while receiver Danny Desriveaux will sport Montreal Metro colours.
If tonight’s tune-up was any indication of how the tournament will fare for either team, then the Metro may have a lot more football to play in the coming weeks, as they walked away with a 21-7 victory.
“We practice almost every day, it’s hard but fun,” said Wilson. “I just can’t wait to get the tournament started."
The Wilson Challenge runs from July 12-20 with games at Percival Molson Stadium and the University of Montreal’s CEPSUM. For more on the Challenge, visit www.football-quebec.com.
