STEVE CHARBONNEAU COMES HOME
Montreal, Jan. 25, 2007 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Jim Popp announced today that veteran defensive tackle Steve Charbonneau has signed a contract to return to the Alouettes.
“This situation is ideal for me,” said Steve Charbonneau. “I’m coming home to an organization I love. My family and I are thrilled that I have the opportunity to continue my career in Quebec. Winning the Grey Cup with the Alouettes has long been a dream of mine.”
The Alouettes’ first-round pick (6th overall) in the 1997 draft, Charbonneau (6’5’’, 290 lbs.) began his career with the Alouettes that year. In five seasons with Montreal, he made 116 tackles, 14 quarterback sacks, 31 special teams tackles, 12 tackles for losses and scored a touchdown. He joined the Edmonton Eskimos in 2002, with whom he won two Grey Cups. In 55 games with Edmonton, he made 112 tackles, 14 sacks, eight tackles for losses of 17 yards, five special teams tackles and added four knockdowns. He is 33.
