Montreal, Jan. 29, 2010 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that veteran guard Paul Lambert and veteran linebacker Diamond Ferri have both re-signed with the club – Lambert for one year plus an option, and Ferri for two plus an option. Both players were potential free agents this February.
"Paul is a great contributor to our team, both on and off the field, and he will continue to play a major role as one of our starting offensive linemen," Jim Popp said. "Diamond is one of the most physical players on our team and he gives our defence an edge other teams don't have."
Lambert (6’4’’, 295 lbs) will be in his eighth season with the Alouettes in 2010. He played 13 games in 2009 as part of an offensive line that helped the offence score at least 600 points for a second consecutive season. He missed Games 10 through 14 with a toe injury. A 2008 CFL All-Star and a 2004 and 2008 East Division All-Star, he is 34.
“I’m very happy with this contract. As a Montrealer, it’s amazing for me to be able to play at home with the Alouettes,” Paul Lambert said. “I know I can still contribute to the offensive line, and if everything goes as planned, I’ll be doing this for a few more years to come.”
Ferri (5’10’’, 214 lbs) started 16 games with the Alouettes in 2009, finishing fifth on the team with 40 tackles. He also recorded two knockdowns, one tackle for a loss, one interception, two fumble recoveries and seven special teams tackles. He has started 46 games at linebacker since joining the team in 2007, after stops with the New York Giants, Atlanta, Cologne (NFLE) and Arizona. He is 28.
“It’s great to be back with the Alouettes. We have some of the best players in the league and I hope we get everyone back. It’s an honour to play for the best organization, starting from the top-down with owner Bob Wetenhall, through our president, Larry Smith, our GM Jim Popp, and the coaching staff, in a city that I’m starting my family in,” Ferri said. “I’m looking forward to joining forces with my teamates to play in front of the best fans in a new stadium this season.”
