Montreal – Percival Molson Stadium rocked tonight – and not just because of a great football game. Montreal-born rocker Jonas gave an electrifying performance at half-time in front of a pumped sold-out crowd.
“It’s a Montreal crowd right? You can never go wrong with that!” Jonas said right after his performance. “It went by way too quickly, though. We’ve been doing sound checks all day out here in the sunshine and now it’s already all over.”
Jonas is the first in a series of high-profile acts that are set to perform all season long at the stadium – his debut self-titled album was produced by John Webster (The Cult, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe) is nearing platinum sales in Quebec alone.
On Feb. 23, 2007, he fulfilled one of his life-long dreams when he played the Bell Centre, and moments before going onstage he signed his first big record deal with Warner Music Canada. His first release with Warner will be a compilation disc of all his best tracks entitled “The Promised Land.”
Alouettes fan Andrew Starnino, who has already seen Jonas live at Bourbon Street North, felt it was a great idea to have him perform. “Any talent at a halftime show is a plus, but when it’s local talent? Well that’s even better.”
His buddy Jason Secchaino agreed it was a good show. “The better the halftime performances are, the more entertainment we get.”
Jonas was more than happy to provide that entertainment.
“There was definitely some great energy in the audience, it was awesome,” said Jonas. And then he described the atmosphere at Percival Molson Stadium perfectly: “It had that ‘it’s-Friday-night-in-July-in-Montreal-and-the-Als-are-playing-kind-of-feel-to-it’… it was awesome.”
