MontrealIt took seven games, but the Alouettes finally put together a legitimate 60-minute effort.

Quarterback Anthony Calvillo continued his mastery on the field – throwing one touchdown for 290 yards and Avon Cobourne scored one touchdown while collecting 162 yards – 137 on the ground and 25 through the air – as the Alouettes disposed of the Blue Bombers 39-11 in Winnipeg.

As usual, the Alouettes found themselves ahead early in the game.

The Als found themselves up 6-0 thanks to the sure-footed kicked Damon Duval who went perfect on the day, connecting on all six of his attempts.

It’s been a season to remember thus far for Duval, as the four-year veteran has only missed one attempt so far this season. Add that to the fact that Duval’s wife, Ashley, gave birth to the couple’s second child on Wednesday, and it was a pretty good week for the ace kicker.

The only touchdown of the half came from Alouettes third string quarterback Adrian McPherson- a one yard scamper that was challenged by Bombers coach Doug Berry but ruled fair by the official.

After an Alexis Serna single, Duval put his third field goal of the day through the uprights to put the Als ahead 16-1 going into the half.

Following a dominant first half, Montreal looked to come out strong in the third quarter – something they have yet to do so far this season.

After Serna and Duval exchanged field goals, Calvillo went to work.

The 36-year old pivot found receiver Brian Bratton in the end-zone to put the Als ahead 26-4, giving the Als a much-needed second half cushion.

Bombers’ quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie was then intercepted by defensive lineman Eric Wilson, and Winnipeg coach Doug Berry inserted passer Kevin Glenn into the game, who provided the Bombers with their only touchdown of the day – a seven-yard pass to Derick Armstrong.

Duval then connected on his final field goal of the day, and Cobourne put all thoughts of an Alouette second-half collapse away by scoring on a goal line rush.

The Alouettes next visit the Argonauts in Toronto on Friday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. (RDS, TSN, CKAC SPORTS, CJAD 800 AM).
