Montreal – A week after they cruised to another well-earned victory at the expense of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Alouettes (2-0-0) look to stay perfect as they meet the Calgary Stampeders (1-1-0) this Thursday at Percival Molson Stadium.
Coming off a second-straight impressive offensive performance, quarterback Anthony Calvillo and the rest of the Montreal offence will look to keep it going against the Stampeders.
Calvillo threw four touchdown passes, totalling 372 yards through the air, and rushed for 57 more en route to a 38-24 victory in front of 79th-straight sell-out crowd at Percival Molson.
On his first reception of the year, slotback Ben Cahoon passed Peter Dalla Riva for most touchdown receptions by an Alouette with a four-yard pass from Calvillo in the first quarter.
“He (Dalla Riva) came up to me after the game, and it was really nice to see him. I have a lot of respect for him,” said Cahoon.
Across the country in Edmonton, Calgary had their hands full with the Eskimos. Receiver Jason Tucker made sure the Esks wouldn’t suffer another heartbreaking loss by making a dramatic catch with just under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter of Friday’s game.
“I knew we needed a play and my number was called, so I knew I had to come up with something,” said Tucker following Edmonton’s 34-31 victory.
With a win this Thursday, the Alouettes will extend their win streak against the Stampeders to three games dating back to the 2007 season.
Montreal won their first meeting of last year 30-18 at home, and then narrowly left Calgary with a 33-32 victory at McMahon Stadium.
The game can be seen live on RDS, TSN, CKAC Sports, CJAD 800 AM, and CHOM 97,7 FM at 7pm.
