STEVE CHARBONNEAU PREPARES FOR HIS SECOND CAREER
He retires after 11 years in pro football

Montreal, Feb. 20, 2008 – Montreal Alouettes defensive tackle Steve Charbonneau announced today he had decided to retire after 11 years in the Canadian Football League including six in the Montreal uniform.

“I have had a lot of fun throughout my football career but at 34, I think it’s time for me to move on,” said Charbonneau. “I want to thank Bob Wetenhall, Larry Smith, Jim Popp and the entire Alouettes organization for their support, especially in the 2007 season that was particularly difficult for my family and myself.”

“We want to thank Steve for his contribution not only on the field, but also in the community,” said Larry Smith. “Steve is part of this group of players who contributed to the re-birth of football in Montreal and in Quebec through relentless efforts and his warm personality. We wish him the best of luck in his post-career and hope he will continue his community involvement through our Alumni program.”

“Through both his football skills and his community involvement, I thank Steve for helping build the Alouettes,” said Jim Popp. “We look forward to Steve continuing to work close to the organization in a different capacity in the future and wish him the best.”

In his 11-year career with the Alouettes and the Edmonton Eskimos, Charbonneau won two Grey Cups, made 228 defensive tackles, 36 special team tackles, 28 sacks, 20 tackles for losses of 35 yards and 10 knockdowns in 152 games. He was selected in the first round, sixth overall, by the Alouettes in the 1997 Canadian College Draft.
