Chiu signs a new contract

Montreal, Feb. 1, 2010 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that veteran centre Bryan Chiu has re-signed for one year plus an option.

“I’m honoured to have another opportunity to be part of this team and defend our championship. It's truly a privilege to have been a part of the Alouettes for as long as I have been, and it was great to get to share the Grey Cup with the people of this province and to see them smile. I’m looking forward another great season,” Chiu said.

“We are fortunate to have Bryan return for another season. He’s a great ambassador for the franchise and we know he will give every ounce he has to help the team win. He has been the quarterback of our offensive line for the past 13 years. We expect Bryan to help in the process to prepare our next future centre,” said Popp.

Chiu (6’2’’, 300 lbs) started 16 games in 2009 and set a new team record on July 18, in Saskatchewan, playing in his 204th game as an Alouette. He was part of an offensive line that helped the offence score at least 600 points for a second consecutive season. Named the 2002 CFL Most Outstanding Lineman, he was selected to the East Division All-Star team for the ninth time of his career in 2009.
