The Alouettes sign local draft picks Barrette and Sagesse | Montreal Alouettes
 
 

Montreal, May 26, 2011 – The Vice President and General Manager of the Montreal Alouettes, Jim Popp, announced that the team has reached agreements with it’s second and fourth round picks in this year’s CFL draft, Anthony Barrette and Renaldo Sagesse, both Montrealers.

“It is a great day for the Alouettes nation when we can draft and sign local talent. We look forward to watching their development,” declared Popp.

He also signed non-import free agent Jeff Hecht to a two-year contract, along with import defensive ends Erik Clanton and Alan-Michael Cash.

Barrette (6’5’’, 320 lbs.), a former offensive tackle with the Concordia Stingers signed a three year deal with Montreal. Selected in the second round (16th overall) by Montreal, Barrette was coached by two former veteran Alouettes, Gerry McGrath and Bryan Chiu, while with the Stingers. He will attend training camp which is scheduled to start June 5 at Bishop's University.

Sagesse (6'4", 279 lbs.), a defensive lineman, recorded 16 defensive tackles, including 3 for losses, during his four-year tenure with the Michigan Wolverines. He played his Cegep AAA football with the Vieux-Montréal Spartiates, and was selected in the fourth round (25th overall) by the Alouettes this spring.

Hecht (5’10’’, 202 lbs.), a defensive back, played with the Saint Mary’s Huskies.  Last season, he recorded 26 tackles, including four for a loss and two quarterback sacks. He also made two interceptions, had a forced fumble and had one fumble recovery.

Clanton (6’3’’, 242 lbs.), a key player for the Citadel Bulldogs, registered 14 tackles for a loss and nine sacks with the team last season. He completed his college football career with 62 tackles.

Cash (6’2’’, 292 lbs.), recorded 38 tackles and three quarterback sacks with the North Carolina State Wolfpack in his senior year in 2008. He recorded 50 tackles the previous season.
