Alouettes acquire Mike Labinjo | Montreal Alouettes

Montreal, Jan. 12, 2011 - Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today the team has acquired Canadian defensive end Mike Labinjo from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for future considerations.

"We are excited to give Mike Labinjo a chance to compete for a job on our defensive line and work with Coach Mike Sinclair.  Last season, Mike took a step back due to battling the injury bug, but we have high hopes he can re-capture those moments of dominance that he has portrait at times with Calgary", said Popp.

Labinjo (6'01'', 288 lbs) is coming to Montreal after four seasons with the Stampeders, where he won the 2008 Grey Cup against the Alouettes. In 44 career games, including 28 starts, he recorded 61 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles, six sacks, nine tackles for a loss of 34 yards, seven knockdowns and two fumble recoveries. He also played eight games with the Philadelphia Eagles between 2004 and 2005 and two games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2005. He also spent time with the Miami Dolphins. He's 30.
