A STE-CATHERINE STREET PARADE!

December 02, 2009

Montreal, Nov. 29, 2009 – The Montreal Alouettes have won the 97th Grey Cup, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 28-27 in front of 46,020 fans at Calgary’s McMahon Stadium. This marks the sixth Grey Cup title in franchise history (1949, 1970, 1974, 1977, 2002, 2009).

Parade
To thank fans for their support, the Alouettes will share their championship with them this Wednesday, Dec. 2 in a parade down Montreal’s rue Ste-Catherine from Crescent to the new Place des Festivals on rue Jeanne-Mance in front of la Place des Arts. The Alouettes will first be invited to City Hall at 9 a.m. to sign the city register before the parade begins at 11:40 a.m.

The parade will start at the corner of Crescent and Ste-Catherine, moving down the city’s main thoroughfare until it reaches the brand new Place des Festivals on rue Jeanne-Mance. To conclude the event, the Alouettes’ cheerleaders will perform a routine followed by a player presentation with the Grey Cup on an outdoor stage.

This is really a tale of 2 Etcheverry's who both lost in under unbelievable circumstances. In 1954 the late Sam and the infamous Hunsinger fumble and then 55 years later his son Andy as defensive coordinator. Both men on losing teams and now the rider nation has some semblance of the shock the Als felt in 1954. Amazing coincidence.

This was the most emotional and exiting game I ever seen. When you think its over... but you know like me, football is never over until it's over. Congratulation Als, you guys did it!!!! I am really happy specially for A.C., Ben Cahoon, Brien Chu and all the veterans who have been working so hard to get there. I know last year was a big desappointment for every one but this year it was meant to be. Again, congratulation!!!!

A very tuff game to watch especially from the first row behind the Riders bench! I cheered when the clock struck 00:00 at the end of the fourth quarter! In the end the win is what counts but a few more from the previous cup games would have been great! Let's do it again in 2010, Cahoon, Chui, Calvillo and Flory, you guys have to be back!
