« The players are ready to win » – Bear Woods

Following the game against the Ottawa REDBLACKS, the Alouettes quickly got back to work preparing for their contest against the BC Lions on Friday. Bear Woods and the team have headed out west, with their sights set on beating the second-place team in the West Division.

After Week 11 of the regular season, linebacker Bear Woods leads the league in tackles (74), and he only needs six more to tie Chip Cox for 9th place in Alouettes history. The reason for this outstanding performance is, according to the man himself, quite simple. “The defensive line: Alan-Michael Cash, John Bowman, Gabriel Knapton, Aaron Lavarias, Jesse Joseph, Jeffrey Finlay and we can’t forget Michael Klassen,” said Woods.

Even though the Als lost 19–14 at the hands of the Ottawa REDBLACKS, Woods did see positives from the defence. “During the game, we were consistent. However, we have to go out and play physically for the entire 60 minutes,” the Alouettes linebacker said.

Even with a record of three wins and seven losses, Woods said that team spirit remains high among his teammates. “It’s the time to see what this team is capable of. From what I have seen, I can tell you that we have had an excellent week of practice and that the players are ready to win,” said the Macclenny, Florida native.

Regarding his own preparation for the Lions, Woods said he is not changing his routine. “The Lions being in second place in their division doesn’t really matter to me. However, I can confirm that they are an excellent team. For my part, I’m preparing for this game just like I would for all the other games, which means I am studying film and I get ready physically.

Woods said that the defence will be keeping a close eye on specific offence players, during tonight’s game. “The Lions’ offence is really centred on Jonathon Jennings, their quarterback. So, it will be important to contain him. They have excellent running backs that are part of the leaders in rushing yards in this league.” said the Alouettes’ stand-out.

Another factor has to be considered for tonight’s game: jet lag. “In order to get ready, I’ll simply sleep the entire day, eat well and play football!

Make sure to catch the game against the BC Lions tonight, starting at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time Zone on TSN and TSN 690.
