“It will be a good challenge!” – Anthony Calvillo

After a convincing 43 – 19 win against the East Division leading Ottawa REDBLACKS, the Alouettes will face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers tonight at McGill’s stadium. Anthony Calvillo and the entire team are raring to go and looking to win their second consecutive game.

The Alouettes offensive coordinator was very proud of his unit after the game against Ottawa. Kevin Glenn became the first Alouettes quarterback to notch five touchdown passes since Calvillo himself accomplished the feat in 2011. Not only that, Glenn was named the CFL’s Top Performer of the Week based upon his best performance since becoming an Alouette. “The offence really knew how to execute the plays. They followed the game plan. We made a few mistakes during the game, but the team recovered well and they knew how to overcome some tough situations. I was proud of the team,” Calvillo said.

Calvillo was satisfied with the work done by the offensive line, even though Glenn was sacked five times in the game against Ottawa. “Our goal is to put the right people at the right position in order for us to have success. A few quarterback sacks could have been avoided if we had got rid of the ball. That being said, it’s all part of the process. I felt that overall the offensive line did good work throughout the game,” said the Alouettes offensive coordinator.

Kick-off for tonight’s game against the Blue Bombers is 7:00 p.m. The Winnipeggers are coming off their bye-week and they’ll be looking for their fourth consecutive victory. The Alouettes coaching staff doesn’t really focus too much on opposing teams’ previous victories, or, whether the opposition is coming off a bye-week. “We prefer to dissect the defence. However, we know that Winnipeg has been enjoying some success the past few weeks. At the start of the season, they were using man-to-man defence. But during the last few weeks, they’ve been employing more zone defence with a lot of blitzes and blitz variations. Therefore, we are anticipating facing a zone defence, but we also have to be ready for man-to-man coverage as well. It will be a good challenge!” said the former Alouettes quarterback.

Don’t miss the Alouettes’ next game tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Percival-Molson Memorial Stadium will be the noisiest place in Canada that night!

For this game against the Blue Bombers, we are encouraging our fans to come to the game with their bells, their horns or anything else they can think of that will make life miserable for the Winnipeggers. And just like for the “Wear White” game, the noisiest fans in attendance will be randomly selected by Alouettes staff and will receive two tickets for the next home game on Thursday, September 1.
