What to watch for on Friday!

After a convincing win on the road against the East Division leaders last Friday, Jim Popp‘s crew will look to build on that win and will seek only one thing: victory in front of their home crowd. The Alouettes want to sweep their two-game series against the Blue Bombers, having topped the them by a score of 22-14 in the first duel of the season in Winnipeg. The theme of the matchup: Make some noise. Fans are encouraged to come to the game with bells, trumpets or any other instrument that allows you to make life difficult for Winnipeg‘s players. As was the case for the “Wear White” game, the noisiest fans will be randomly awarded with two tickets for the next home game on September 1 by Alouettes staff. For the occasion, Percival Molson Memorial Stadium will be the noisiest place in Canada.

Several things to watch for in this crucial matchup

Alouettes star linebacker Bear Woods will definitely be one to watch on Friday. The man who is at the heart of defensive coordinator Noel Thorpe‘s defence currently ranks first in the league in defensive tackles with 57. Thus far, Montreal‘s defensive squad has experienced a 2016 season to remember, as it has allowed a mere 23,3 points per game average. Only the Calgary Stampeders have done better in the CFL so far. Furthermore, John Bowman, the team’s all-times sack leader is looking for his 107th career quarterback sack.

On offence, all eyes will be on the Alouettes‘ group of receivers. Nik Lewis seems to rewrite the CFL record book every game, and the dynamic duo formed of Duron Carter and B. J. Cunningham have given opposing defensive coordinators fits. After posting his best numbers in the Alouettes uniform with five touchdown passes in Ottawa, quarterback Kevin Glenn certainly wants to keep it going. The veteran quarterback is now tied for third in the league with 11 touchdown passes and ranks fourth in passing yards with 2,059.

Purolator Tackle Hunger

Purolator and the Montreal Alouettes are pleased to join forces once again and invite Canadian football fans to give generously as they host the 14th edition of the Purolator Tackle Hunger annual food program at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on Friday, August 26, when the Montreal Alouettes square off with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. All proceeds from this year’s food drive will support Moisson Montréal.

From the start of the tailgating festivities until the final whistle of the first quarter, the Alouettes will be assisting the Purolator volunteers and Moisson Montréal by collecting non-perishable goods as well as monetary donations in each entrance of the stadium. Last year, the Alouettes fans’ generosity helped raise 10,518 pounds of food for local families. For every dollar raised, Purolator will be donating two pounds of food to the cause. Furthermore, the donors will be able to get their photograph taken with the Grey Cup at the Purolator kiosk.
