“Our challenge is to maintain our consistency from the last game” – Anthony Calvillo

The offense performed magnificently in last week’s game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, scoring 41 points. Not only that, but Alouettes offensive coordinator Anthony Calvillo got to see the number of his former teammate Ben Cahoon retired alongside his own. All that being said, the coaching staff didn’t dwell on the victory, as the next game is coming up quickly: the BC Lions will be at Percival-Molson Memorial Stadium Thursday night.

Evaluating the offense

The Alouettes offensive coordinator liked what he saw in the offense in the game against the Roughriders. “We really improved. We were focused for all four quarters and we were consistent throughout the game. As well, we avoided making costly mistakes, which allowed us to have success against Saskatchewan. Our challenge for the upcoming games is to maintain that level of consistency,” Calvillo said.

Preparing for the Lions

Anthony CalvilloAfter Friday’s win, the coaching staff began their preparation for Thursday’s game against the BC Lions. “For now, our preparation is going the way we want it to be going. As you know, the last three weeks have been short for us, and we have to prepare our players well so they can perform to their full potential. I can say that our players are on the right track,” Calvillo said.

The Lions’ defense

When asked about the Lions’ defense, Calvillo said they have to be watched closely. “Their defense is very good. Their style is unique in the CFL: They use their defensive line differently, with different formations than what we are accustomed to seeing in the league. Beating their defense will be a challenge for us in this game,” said the offensive coordinator.
