“This upcoming game is going to be a challenge for us!” – Billy Parker

The Alouettes are in the final stages of their three-games-in-eleven-days odyssey. With a home victory against the Saskatchewan Roughriders Friday night, Billy Parker and the rest of the team are now getting ready for the last game of this sequence against the BC Lions.

The work of the defense against Saskatchewan

The Alouettes’ defense learned a lot in the loss against Toronto, and that was reflected in Friday night’s performance. “We had an excellent game against the Roughriders, and we were able to bounce back from the loss against the Argos. When we watched the film from the Argos’ game, we realized that was not the type of defense that we play. Our defense plays very physically and with a lot of energy and that’s what we showed in the game against Saskatchewan,”said Parker.

Preparing for the Lions

Billy ParkerForty-eight hours after the win against Saskatchewan, the players had already moved on and began getting ready for the Thursday night game against the Lions. “We have started preparing for the BC Lions for this Thursday. Our team meetings have been going very well and we had an excellent practice on Monday. We’ll be back on the practice field tomorrow (Tuesday) to correct the mistakes that we made during Monday’s practice. This upcoming game is going to be a challenge for us,” said the eight-year Alouette veteran.

When asked about the Lions’ offense, Parker said they are both talented and dangerous. “Everything starts with their quarterback,  Jonathon Jennings, who is very dynamic, very elusive and who has a strong arm, which gives his receivers more opportunities. We need to contain him and keep him in check. If we do our work, we have a chance to win this game,” said the Alouettes defensive back.

Energy from the win

Billy ParkerNot only did Friday night’s victory give the players a boost during this stretch of three games in eleven days, but the home crowd also helped the team enormously. “Winning a game definitely gives us added energy for the upcoming week. That being said, we can’t forget our fans who provided their support throughout the entire game. We hope to see them again this week and that they encourage us as much as, if not even more than, they did during the last game,” said the Mechanicsville, Virginia native.
