“I want to give the very best of myself” – Brandon Rutley

In less than 48 hours, the Alouettes will be crossing paths with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McGill’s stadium. Brandon Rutley, now in his fourth CFL season, on Friday will be playing his first game as a starter in 2016. We caught up with Brandon at montrealalouettes.com.

Asked about his preparation for Friday night’s game, Rutley explained that it doesn’t matter whether he is a starter or waiting to come in off the bench – his routine does not change. “I get ready like I always do before a game. I study film like I always do. My goal, going into Friday night’s game, is to give the very best of myself.

Brandon sees Friday night’s game as a chance to display his talents on the field, as he’ll carry the ball more than he usually does. “It’s really an opportunity for me to go on the field and give it my all and show what I am capable of doing,” said the Alouettes’ running back.

Regarding the status of the team, Brandon said it’s part-and-parcel of professional football and that he’s not daunted by the situation. “Injuries happen to all teams. All we can do is execute the plays that we have been practicing and everything will be all right,” said the Tuscaloosa, Alabama native.

Going up against the Tiger-Cats on Friday, Rutley says the strategy is very simple: “The offense, the defense and special teams have to execute during the game. If the three units do their job, we’ll have a victory under our belts in front of our home fans.

“The crowd is very enthusiastic at our games. And they are very loud when we make big plays on the field.”

The fans at McGill’s stadium play a very important role for Alouettes players when the team is playing at home. “The crowd is very enthusiastic at our games. And they are very loud when we make big plays on the field. I am really looking forward to Friday’s game,” said the Alouettes’ running back.
