MONTREAL – The 2012 Junior Alouettes Camps got underway this past weekend and two groups of lucky youngsters got to pick up a few tips from the pros. Players aged 7-to-15 were in full gear on the field at Percival Molson Stadium learning the ropes from the likes of a group of Alouettes players that included: Shea Emry, Luc Brodeur-Jourdain, Marc-Olivier Brouillette, Diamond Ferri, Martin Bédard and Anthony Barrette. The players got to learn proper technique from their Als heroes as they got to enjoy some one-on-one time with them.
The camps consist of two half-day sessions that span a weekend. With the first weekend now in the books, it’s all systems go for next weekend’s campers to transcend onto the Alouettes home field.
Interest in this year’s camps even spread beyond provincial borders. With his hometown Tiger-Cats not offering a camp with such a scope, 11-year-old Ryan Donavon took matters into his own hands. As an Easter present from his family last month, he was registered for the Alouettes Junior Camp. Sure he may have arrived at the event dressed in Ti-Cat black and gold, but who knows where Ryan’s allegiances will lie down the road given his immersion in Alouettes 101 this past weekend.
