Montreal, Apr. 5, 2011 – The Montreal Alouettes’ vice president and general manager, Jim Popp, is pleased to announce that the team has signed non-import linebacker Curtis Dublanko, import wide receiver Dallas Baker as well as import defensive back Ryan McFoy.
Dublanko (6’00’’, 235 lbs.), was drafted by the Alouettes in the second round, 15th overall, in the 2010 Canadian Draft. He played four seasons with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. In 2010, his senior year with the former, he registered 42 tackles, two for a loss of 10 yards and two sacks. In 2009, the season after which the Alouettes drafted him, he was named the Fighting Sioux’s most improved player, most outstanding linebacker as well as defensive player of the year. He registered 59 tackles that season. He is 23.
“Dublanko was a draft pick for the future one year ago. He has played extensively at middle linebacker and at fullback in college. He will have a great chance to come in and strengthen our special teams immediately and help secure our ratio at LB,” said Popp.
Baker (6’3’’, 210 lbs.), played the 2010 season with the AFL Jacksonville Sharks, recording 958 yards and 20 touchdowns on 74 catches. He was selected in the seventh round, 227th overall, by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played eight games in two seasons and was on the Steelers’ practice roster for their 2008 Super Bowl win. He played four seasons with the Florida Gators and was named a 2006 First-Team All-SEC while helping his team win the 2007 BCS National Championship game against Ohio State. He is 28.
“Baker gives us an experienced deep threat to compete for a job at training camp,” declared Popp.
McFoy (6’1”, 210 lbs.), played four seasons with the Arizona State Sun Devils. During his time there, he registered 107 tackles, including 7 for total losses of 27 yards, one sack and 5 interceptions. He also broke up eight passes, forced two fumbles and recovered one.
“Ryan McFoy brings a complete package into the mix. He has tremendous size and speed. Ryan should be able to compete as a defensive back and linebacker in our scheme.”
